Treaba (a subsidiary of Tianqi Interactive) has been sued for alleged infringement of "Genshin Impact" (The original name of the game is "Genshin Impressions", which is the Chinese name for the game,

Recently, Tianyan Check shows that Guangzhou Huo Lanhu Information Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guangzhou Sanji Network Technology Co., Ltd. under Sanji Entertainment, was ordered to compensate Shanghai MiHao Tianming Technology Co., Ltd. for copyright infringement, with a total compensation of 30,000 RMB. The case involves the MMORPG game “Cloud City’s Song” under Sanji Entertainment, which performed excellently overseas. In August, its overseas revenue ranked 11th, with monthly revenue exceeding 300 million RMB, of which the Korean market’s monthly revenue exceeded 100 million RMB, and the Japanese market’s 30-day revenue exceeded 60 million RMB.
Shanghai MiHao Tianming Technology Co., Ltd. argued that the WeChat public account operated by Huo Lanhu Company under the plaintiff’s subsidiary,擅自篡改并使用了MiHao’s promotional image of “Genshin Impact” titled “The Knights of the West Wind.” This misled consumers and confused the relationship between the game “Cloud City’s Song – Heroic Legend” and “Genshin Impact,” leading to the company obtaining improper benefits, constituting unfair competition. The court found that the pictures published by the defendant were substantially similar to the plaintiff’s work, infringing the plaintiff’s information network right, and that the defendant’s actions confused veteran players, constituting unfair competition. Ultimately, the court ruled that the defendant Huo Lanhu Company must compensate the plaintiff MiHao Company 30,000 RMB.
Tianyan Check also shows that Guangzhou Huo Lanhu Information Technology Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guangzhou Sanji Network Technology Co., Ltd., which is jointly held by Sanji Entertainment (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd., and Sanji Entertainment Network Technology Group Co., Ltd. Sanji Entertainment reported positive performance for the first half of the year, with its overseas business developing rapidly. The company’s overseas revenue is expected to increase by over 40% in the reporting period. According to Sensor Tower data, “Cloud City’s Song” performed excellently in the Korean and Japanese markets, rising 3 spots to 11th place in overseas rankings, with a Korean market revenue share of 47.9% and a Japanese market revenue share of 31.7%. Additionally, “Puzzles & Survival” has been gradually launched in global markets since 2020 and is still among the top 50 iOS charts in 16 global game markets.
